Where porcelain slab beats everything else
Outdoors, porcelain is the technically correct answer: zero UV degradation, freeze-thaw stable, and nothing to seal. On vertical surfaces it is unmatched because 6mm sheets weigh little enough to clad a fireplace wall or shower surround floor to ceiling with almost no visible joints.
The edge problem
A 12mm slab has a thin edge. To read as a substantial countertop it must be mitered and glued into a hollow box, which requires precision and good adhesive work. A shop that has not done many porcelain miters will produce visible seams at the corners. Ask to see completed porcelain work before committing.
