Straight answers
Are you the contractor?
No. We are a marketing and referral company. Every project is performed by an independent contractor who is separately licensed, insured and responsible for their own work. We do not swing a hammer, cut a slab or pull a permit.
How do you make money?
Contractors pay us. Depending on the partner, we are paid a fee for each homeowner inquiry we deliver, for each in-home appointment booked, or a percentage of a signed project. Homeowners never pay us anything.
Does paying you affect who I get matched with?
Yes, it can. The contractors we present are drawn from partners who have an active agreement with us, and compensation may affect which partners we show and in what order. Our matches are not a ranking of the best contractors in Charlotte and are not the result of a survey of all available contractors.
What happens after I submit the estimator?
Your name, phone number, email address, ZIP code and project selections are saved and then sold or shared with one or more licensed contractor partners serving your area. Any of them may call, text or email you. We may also contact you ourselves to confirm details.
Is the estimate a real quote?
No. It is an automated, non-binding range generated from the three questions you answered. It ignores your actual measurements, site conditions, slab pricing, plumbing and electrical needs, and permits. Only a contractor who visits your home can quote a price.
Do you verify contractor licenses?
We ask partners to confirm that they hold the licenses and insurance required for the work they accept, but we do not continuously audit or re-verify credentials, and we do not guarantee them. Always verify licensing yourself before you sign a contract or pay a deposit.
Do you guarantee the work or handle warranty claims?
No. We provide no warranty of any kind on materials, workmanship or timelines, and we cannot resolve a construction dispute, defect claim, refund request, lien or warranty issue. Those are between you and your contractor.
Are the photos on this site your projects?
The gallery is representative of the categories of work our contractor partners perform and may include partner-supplied and stock imagery. It is not a portfolio of any specific contractor's completed jobs.
Before you hire any contractor
Charlotte sits on the North Carolina / South Carolina line, so the right license depends on where your home is. Use these free official resources — we are not affiliated with them and receive nothing from them.
- North Carolina: verify a general contractor license with the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors (nclbgc.org). Contracts of $40,000 or more require a licensed GC.
- South Carolina: verify with the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (llr.sc.gov) — residential builders and specialty contractors are licensed separately.
- Permits: confirm with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Code Enforcement, or your county building department, whether your scope requires a permit — and make sure the contractor, not you, pulls it.
- Insurance: request a certificate of general liability and workers' compensation insurance sent directly from the insurer, naming you.
- Payment: be cautious of large up-front deposits, cash-only demands, and any contractor who will not provide a written scope, materials list and completion schedule.
- Complaints: the NC Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division and the SC Department of Consumer Affairs accept complaints about contractors.
What we commit to
- We tell you up front that we are a referral service, on every form and in our footer.
- We only pass your information to contractors after you check the consent box, and we store the exact consent language you agreed to along with the timestamp.
- We honor opt-out, deletion and do-not-sell requests submitted through our Do Not Call / Opt Out page, and we will tell you which partners received your inquiry if you ask.
- We do not fabricate reviews, testimonials, license numbers, certifications or award claims.
- We do not ask for your Social Security number, bank details or credit information — if anyone claiming to be us does, it is not us.
Claims we do not make
We do not claim to hold a contractor license ourselves, to have fabricated or installed any specific project, to operate a showroom or fabrication shop, to guarantee pricing or timelines, or to have vetted every credential of every partner on an ongoing basis. If you ever see copy on this site that suggests otherwise, it is an error — please tell us at info@charlottestoneandtile.com and we will correct it.
