How Much Do Countertops Cost in Charlotte in 2026?
Countertop quotes in Metro Charlotte routinely vary by 60 percent for the same kitchen and the same material. That spread is not random — it comes from slab grade, edge work, cutout count and how honest the shop is about minimum slab consumption. Here is how the math actually works in 2026.

Installed cost per square foot by material
These are installed ranges observed across Metro Charlotte fabricators — material, template, fabrication, standard eased or bullnose edge, one sink cutout, and install. They exclude plumbing beyond a straight reconnect and any cabinet work.

The four line items that move your total
First, slab grade. The same stone name spans Level 1 through Level 5 pricing, and a salesperson quoting 'granite' without naming the specific slab is quoting nothing.
Second, edge profile. Eased and bullnose are usually included. Ogee, dupont and mitered aprons add per linear foot — a 4cm mitered island edge can add $1,200 to a mid-size kitchen on its own.
Third, cutouts and drilling. Undermount sink cutouts, cooktop cutouts, faucet and soap dispenser holes are each priced separately at most shops.
Fourth, minimum slab consumption. A 24-square-foot vanity project still consumes a slab. On small jobs, ask specifically whether a remnant is available — it can cut the material line in half.
A realistic Charlotte kitchen example
A typical Ballantyne kitchen runs 55 square feet of countertop with a 9-foot island. Quotes that should make you walk away
A quote with no named slab. A quote that does not list the edge profile. A quote with no line for tear-out and haul-away. A quote demanding more than 50 percent up front. And any quote from a company that will not give you a license number you can verify with the NC Licensing Board for General Contractors or the SC LLR.
